The Review

In my personal experience, I found La Chinesca to be underwhelming. Although I initially anticipated a Chino-Latino restaurant, it turned out to be a quasi-Mexican-Chinese fusion establishment.
La Chinesca, situated in the heart of Philadelphia, offers a blend of Mexican and Chinese flavors in its unique menu. However, I found the execution to be lacking. For instance, the beef tacos my cousin ordered were disappointingly bland and dry, despite their appealing appearance. Similarly, the duck egg roll, which we were told would be sizable enough for three people, turned out to be just an average-sized egg roll commonly found in Chinese-American takeout joints. Additionally, my younger cousins' orders of double beef tacos seemed to be met with judgment and surprise from our waitress, which I found unnecessary.
However, there were a few highlights during our visit. I particularly enjoyed the fried wonton chips served with various salsas, including a delightful peanut tomato-based sauce. The ambiance and atmosphere of La Chinesca were pleasant and unpretentious, and most of the staff members were friendly and welcoming. Despite the misleading portion descriptions by our waitress, the service was prompt, even during a busy evening with a full restaurant.
Considering my experience, I wouldn't choose to return to La Chinesca for a full dinner. However, I would be inclined to visit for their happy hour offerings, as the cocktails and appetizers might be worth exploring in a more casual setting.
An Honest and Detailed Review of La Chinesca Restaurant
In this review, we'll provide an honest and detailed account of our experience at La Chinesca restaurant. From the ambiance to the food, we'll cover all the important aspects that make or break a dining experience.
Ambiance and Atmosphere:
La Chinesca offers a pleasant and mellow atmosphere, especially if you choose to dine outside. With heaters and cozy blankets, we were comfortable despite the cold weather. The restaurant is located in a vibrant neighborhood, perfect for a leisurely stroll with family or friends.
Service:
While the majority of the staff was friendly, our experience with the waitress was disappointing. She seemed uninterested and provided incorrect information when we asked about portion sizes. Her suggestions did not match our expectations, leaving us a bit confused and dissatisfied.
Food:
Unfortunately, the food at La Chinesca did not meet our expectations. We ordered a variety of dishes, including pork belly, beef tacos, and wonton nachos. However, the portions were surprisingly small, and the flavors fell flat. The pork belly lacked succulence, and the beef tacos were bland, requiring additional sauce for flavor. Overall, we left the restaurant still feeling hungry and unsatisfied.
Conclusion:
Regrettably, we cannot recommend La Chinesca based on our experience. While the ambiance and some aspects of the service were satisfactory, the underwhelming portion sizes and lackluster flavors of the dishes left us disappointed. We would rate our experience at La Chinesca with only half a pretzel out of five. We hope that the restaurant takes our feedback constructively to improve the dining experience for future patrons.
